Major League Baseball (MLB) announced today an agreement with PitchCom to extend their league-wide vendor relationship providing patented, award-winning signal-calling systems to every Major League Club and AAA affiliate through at least the 2026 season.
First adopted for usage in MLB games in 2022, the PitchCom System has become an integral part of baseball’s efforts towards improving pace of play. In 2023, PitchCom seamlessly worked in tandem with the Pitch Clock to help provide a crisper pace, more action, better aesthetics and broader popularity to the sport. The Pitch Clock particularly benefited young fans and families, who could watch the endings of games much more easily.
The average length of game in 2023 was the shortest it has been in 38 years – since 1985 – by clocking in at an average of 2:39:49 per game. The average time for nine-inning games decreased by 24 minutes from 2022 and 30 minutes from 2021. Last season there were only nine games that lasted 3:30 or longer. In 2021, that number was 390, the most in MLB history.
